It’s time for classic design to merge with modern technology and innovation, as Lake launch the new Lake CX21C and MX21G cycling shoes for road and gravel cycling. Designed to help riders to maximise performance, whilst continuing with our legendary Lake cycling shoe comfort, they have used over 40 years of innovation and excellence in design to produce a super-light and modern cycling shoe that will wrap your feet in classical cycling style.
The first thing to notice about the new CX21C is the lightness of the shoe and how it feels like a shoe that wants you to race. With a classic laces closure system, it draws on those halcyon days of cycling, whilst giving riders the ultimate in adjustability for your own unique cycling feet. The single piece Clarino Microfiber, ultra minimal upper adds to the modern styling, as the soft and padded fabric wraps around your foot like a second skin of cycling shoe excellence. We’ve also added perforations to the upper, along the sides and the toe box, adding to the aesthetic whilst helping to maximise airflow and comfort as you crank up the power. The foot is protected from the laces by a soft and padded, wide fabric tongue, ensuring that the laces add security and gain without unnecessary pain.
Lake know how hard you want to ride when racing, which is why they have also added a soft and dimpled heel gripper inside the new CX21C and MX21G, holding your foot securely as the high-cadence and high-pressure riding, powers down on the pedals. With the new CX21C, they looked in detail at every aspect of cycling shoe design learned over 40+ years. Using the marginal gain’s philosophy, we’ve designed the new heel gripper inside of the CX21C / MX21G to ensure that every pedal stroke adds maximum power, performance and progression through the peloton. There’s often a loss of watts – and power – with cycling shoes, when the heel lifts as you ride hard. Designed on our CX/ TX Competition ‘Last’, the new CX21C and MX21G also has a 100% carbon fiber sole, available in a three-hole cleat pattern. The increased toe pitch & heel lift, alongside a tighter heel and a slightly wider ball girth allows the foot to expand under high pedalling pressures, whilst keeping you comfortable and focused on the ride and the race.
To the front of the CX21C they’ve added a small rubber toe box bumper, as they know that all cycling shoes can have that tendency when working hard to knock against things. This small touch adds that extra element of security, ensuring that your new CX21C cycling shoes will look and feel great for many years to come. On the MX21G Gravel Biking version, the toe bumper is more pronounced, to deal with the loose and rocky terrain. The sole is also designed to maximize your stability on and off the bike, with the 100% carbon sole covered with our Mountain Race X real rubber sole.
